Samui Construction

Samui construction has come a long way since the pioneering days of the early 70’s when the island first started charming its international visitors. Word had spread of an idyllic spot in the Gulf of Siam, a traditional and welcoming place with beautiful beaches and hills – a barely developed place where you could arrive on a night boat and find lodgings with the locals. The sophistication might be lacking, but the intense feel of finding such an exquisite place definitely wasn’t. For anyone looking for an escape, it was a dream come true.

It wasn’t before long that others were making their way to Koh Samui, taking night buses down from Bangkok or perhaps coming up from Malaysia and then taking that same night boat. The locals found that they had run out of spare rooms, yet more guests wanted them. The solution? Build small resorts along the lines of the current buildings. Think wooden huts with rudimentary conveniences. Soon more concrete was used especially for the bathrooms. This was staple accommodation for most, but already the island was attracting its first investors from outside and a few luxurious and semi-luxurious resorts were duly built.

The islanders began to have the suspicion that no matter how many new properties and buildings went up, the influx of tourists wasn’t going to stop or even abate. It only took a few years before the island was transformed from a backwater into a world-class tourist destination.

Samui construction had to keep up with all the new developments and very quickly it was found that the old-style accommodation needed an upgrade. Those who built in the Samui traditions, using plenty of wood, still had plenty of work, but what was increasingly demanded were buildings that were made of more contemporary materials and which were more spacious.

Koh Samui began to transform itself architecturally and gradually villas were built that were completely different from anything that the islanders had so far seen. These properties were specifically designed to let in all the light; large windows could be slid back allowing a meld between the exterior and the interior. The rooms were extremely spacious, had ensuite bathrooms, and as for kitchens, they were no longer outside but to be found inside, usually close to, or part of, the main living room.

Any aviator passing over Koh Samui at this time would have noticed a further transformation: amongst the greenery were dozens and dozens of swimming pools. Increasingly, they graced the new villas as Koh Samui began to resemble other major league travel destinations.

Today development scenario is complete and the island is on an equal footing with sophisticated destinations to be found in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and coastal Australasia. It’s all been down to Samui construction.

With care and attention brought to the island, it has remained a place of beauty and even with the increase of local population and tourist numbers, it has retained all its former good points, while acquiring still more. Thanks to Samui construction, the infrastructure has also improved. Once it was near impossible to drive around the island and most locals took boats between certain spots; but thanks to the construction of the ring road in the 80s, it now takes little over an hour. The island is further graced with an airport and vastly improved ports, which allows not only people to travel safely and quickly, but also makes it a cinch for all kinds of products to arrive on the island.

Samui construction is also responsible for the improvements in electricity supply and for building a far more developed grid. The same goes for water supply, too. Internet speeds are as high as any civilized spot anywhere and gone are the days when it was slow, patchy or you had to travel to find a connection.
